Hi there, Struggling to find a part no. on OEM, I have put my vin number in etc and it still is showing me something different. I need a new tailgate button, it's a 1998 525TDS se Auto. The tailgate (glass only) won't open unless you dismantle the button case and squeeze the bi metal insert really hard, definitely the button itself not working and it doesn't dismantle, so it's a plastic moulding, including the round part around the wiper, the switch insides and the wires are actually sealed into the plastic with epoxy, so the whole unit has to be replaced. On the end of the two wires (blue and white) is a small plug where it plugs into the tailgate loom.
I keep getting this part- 61318355127 which looks completely wrong and more like something from in the main boot lid.
Alternatively, does anyone have a working button I can buy?
Thanks
Matt

I reckon you're looking for No 12 here:

Rear window key button with micro switch
Link to the breakdown found with my E39 chassis No (which is a facelift 525i Touring) but I don't think these parts changed much:

Don't rely on the picture too much on the ETK, it doesn't always look like the part used.

Thanks guys, I was in the wrong place, looking at the tailgate, I didn't think to look at the wiper itself, I have just been to the stealers to find out. £28, not so bad. Don't see the point of a SH one if it's something that breaks anyway.

X5's are a ball-ache to get the tailgate button too... Atleast you're sorted by the looks of things mate
I'll check with the manager
