So I've spent 2 years doing up my e30 325i touring. It has no rust and is as good as I will find, nothing wrong with it, brilliant car:

Thing is I went in an e39 on the motorway the other day and for the journeys I do, 100 miles every weekend up and down the m4, an e39 is a bit more refined and relaxing. I have a longer geared diff fitted on the e30 to drop the revs on motorways but still, the more modern cars have evolved.
Then I have started looking at e46 330i tourings as probably more suitable for my needs size and economy wise. Always fancied one of those and they've dropped a lot price wise.
Is it stupid to sell mine and buy a possible heap of trouble? I do love it and know where I stand with it but got a case of itchy feet.
Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers.
sell my touring and buy a?

i drove my dads e46 330 for a week while i waited to get my new ride. i loved it. its done 160000 and was as smooth and quiet as the day it left the factory. its actually his track car so gets hammered quite a bit too. i wanted to see what i could get to the gallon so drove slow for the week and gave him it back with 36mpg on the dash.
that said i love my e30 as well. its as good on the motorway but its reving higher and prob not getting the same mpg. good luck choosing

I've got a facelift E46 320d as a daily driver. Its totally reliable and rides smooth even after 150k. Will never be as fun as my now ex E30 325i, as its a bit lardy and needs its 150bhp. Plus the traction control kills any rwd fun... You should drive a 330d before you buy a 330i though...

Ideally yes!diable wrote:Have a daily car and a hobby car.
I only ever use my e30 touring to go to the supermarket or get a nice chicken shish (a mile journey twice a week I don't really need a car for), then I drive 100 miles up and down the m4 every weekend to go fishing. That's what I need a car for.
I get the tube or cycle to work so no daily driver required.
I don't have enough money to buy another car without selling this one and the only thing left to do to the e30 is to fit newly painted mirrors to it. So the tinkering is over really, which is fine.
So e46 330i sport touring or e39 alpina 3.3 touring or keep this and stop thinking about it!

Nobchops here just got 2 parking tickets for forgetting and leaving it parked outside my flat during the week rather than in the car park round the back.
Thank god I got off the bus and happened to glance down the side street, 'Oh look, you don't see many of them around. Poor bloke's got loads of tickets. Oh hang on..'
Reminded me that non-budgeted car costs are completely unaffordable.
I'll be keeping it.
As you were.
cheers.
