Straight in BUT the looms are different and I am fairly certain not compatible as the ECU is on the drivers side on a 6 and the n/s on an E28

Could i use the existing loom from the e24 and mate it to the e28 engine?

They'll swap OK if you just use the long motor. Surely rather than spend money on a 628, a 635 upgrade would be a better bet?
I've a lovely 86000 mile E24 M30b35.

I assumed that, but he really shouldn't be spending money on a 628 with a blown engine unless it's something pretty special in terms of condition and spec and I've seen very very few of them. Mostly cloth and comfort and unsaleable.

A Mate bought an Aids spec D plate (very late special order) 628CSi a few years ago from the now defunct Southampton Auctions. It was Saturn blue (doom) with blue houndstooth comfort cloth, 14 inch bottletops, no spoilers and 5 speed manual. It drove very well indeed and went nicely. It was quite low mileage and was a superb example - paid a grand for it iirc and probably still has it.
