My dads just bought an e39 525i. It had no radio in the dash but we found it loose in the boot. The "lid" covering its giblets was off though so im not sure if its defective anyway. I've put the radio in and nothing is working. Do i have to put a code in for it to work (no code in its details, not even in the bmw audio handbook thing), or is it foobarred?

Cheers beys!

Edit: its a facelift '01 plate with cd changer and a c53 becker radio like this:

Tried a search of the model code to get an on-line instruction book for it?
Someone on here is bound to have one and help...

Doesn't sound promising thought that radio in the state you found it.

the code is in the ecu already, check power to it as when you remove radio it blows the fuse if battery not removed.it might have to be plugged in to find another stereo, unless its aftermarket then it won,t matter

I thought they were coded. Looking at some on ebay it says they come with the code too?

The mini fuse on the stereo, and the fuses for the stereo on the car are ok.

Fair enough :chuckle: I'll tap up a new one then.

Must admit i'm loving the car. Im not a fan of silver, and i hate the wheels but i'm loving the interior - even the wood trim :o:

E39's are a pleasant enough place to be.
