ok, bought the car a month ago and it needed a flywheel which was replaced at my work and everything was fine until i drove it into work the next day, on the way to work a rather loud "knocking" noise coming from the engine, its not a diesel knock as far as i no, ive had the inlet side apart but cant find anything out of the ordinary................im now listening to any thoughts ppl might have

cheers

If its a 320d then id would take off the inlet manifold and inspect the swirl flaps as these perish and can fall into the cyclinder and cause engine failure.. This is a common problem with this engine, if the swirl flaps are ok or not, id replace the inlet manifold with a new one as the new one is modified... Also change the engine oil breather, thats sits on the rocker cover as this can get blocked and cause issues and potential oil leaks from under the inlet manifold...

No need to replace the whole inlet manifold!
Just remove the flaps and fit some blanking plugs instead.

The EGR valve is a prick for getting blocked up alright causing it to run shite but wouldn't cause knocking.

ok so ive narrowed it down to either the pump or injectors, im sending the injectors off to be balanced so that may shed some light if it those :?
