any opinions on the later e36 rearview mirrors.

They have an electric connector and light sensors, so I guess are self adjusting?
Also how to remove the windscreen mirror mounting plate

IMO the autodim mirror would be too wide/bulky for the E30 screen.
They are not self adjusting,they just dim slightly when headlights behind.

I managed to get the mounting plate off the glass using nail polish remover and a bit of "sawing action" with fishing line.
Gentle prising with a screwdriver wrapped in a soft cloth helped too.
