Charge him £300 for an Eibach Pro Kit ( will cost you about £250 ) Plus say £200 for labour.
Cutting springs is for driftc0cks and tw@ts.

Cutting one coil (and one only) from E30 front springs works well. But you can'y cut E34/E32 springs because the bottom coil is a smaller diameter than the next one up - once cut, the springs will not sit properly in the lower spring cups - cue a disaster when they dislodge and rip the tyre sidewall out. You can cut a coil or two from the rears if that's your thing.
To lower the front, a pair of E34 520i springs drops it about 40mm. Doing it properly involves a set of Eibach springs.

I coilover converted my old E32 735i

Front: 2.5" compbrake conversion kit, 2.5" ID springs, normal shocks
Rear: E28 Koni sport shocks, 2.25" compbrake conversion kit, 2.25" ID springs
It turned out really well, but doing this is fairly involved and you need some welding/fabrication skills to do it right.
Front coilover converted struts:
