My 318i E46 has developed an oil leak which seems to be somewhere under the engine,it seems to be engine oil.Is there any typical places where they leak from? The oil seems to be landing in the centre of the plastic under try.The car is a Y2K car.

Try using a parsnip instead?

M43 engine, probably sump gasket, front crank radial seal or the oil filter housing to block seal.

If there is a small pool of oil on the block under the filter housing its probably the oil filter housing to block seal. I had the same problem on mine. there a good guide if your going to do it yourself, as a specialist near me wanted £120 for the work.
