Looking to replace my daily E46 with an E36 Sport Touring.
I want a mint, lo-miles and FULLY specc'ed one.
What's the best E36 forum to grab such a thing?
The usual sale sites aren't cutting the mustard...

Not genuine 323i Sport's by the looks of things but both have the sport kit.

Sport Tourings came in all engines - even the Diesel.
Barry - I've seen all the usual rinsed cars on the usual sites. Narrowly missed out on this and was sick as a parrot as you hardly see Black E36's let alone Sport Tourings with goodies:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p
So I'm after something special, lo miles and a proper Sport.
@ Topless / Beardymatt - My 46 won't be for sale till I've got an E36 - I will let you know if you're genuinely interested.

I sold my 323 touring about 12 months ago for more than that - and that was an SE with 30k more miles not a sport !

The only touring to be given the Sport designation was the 323i.
You want a 328i SE with all the options!

E46's are too grown up.
I want a mix of E46 and E30 = E36!
The E36 is the perfect daily.
A buddy of mine had a 328i Sport on the V5? I thought you could order any BMW with the Sport option, even a 316i. It's just body kit, suspensions and interior...

The only sports were 328i Sport in a coupe body, and 323i Sport in a touring body.
My 328iSE touring has all the same extras as a sport, bodykit, sport seats, black headlining etc.
I'd rather a 328i with all the options than a 323i sport.
Read the journals on E36coupe, all 323i sport touring owners wish they had held out for a 328i, and end up swapping in a 328i engine.

I'm up for a 6-Cylinder.
I'd rather have a 323i with the correct goodies than a 328i without.
It cannot be Silver or any kind of Blue. Black or Grey FTW.
No 'individual' colours.

found this on my drive, right up your street. 6 owners, Original Nikasil engine, 166,000miles, Cat C write off and silver! General air of nailedness
All the toys, manual box, black leather,A/C dual climate,PDC,Cruise, steering adjust, dog guard,18 OBC centre arm rest, M50 inlet, M20 clutch, full Alpina B3 exhaust, B4 dampers, m-tech springs. E30 ali arms with eccentric bushes. No Traction either
Most 328's come in ok colours with jank interiors. You try finding black leather in any of them, sport seats forget it.

The standard 323i is nice but severely overgeared - it runs a 2.93 328i final drive with 170 bhp when a 325i with 192 bhp had a 3.15.
To make a 323i @ as quick as a 328i you need a 3.15 final drive, a 328i exhaust system (the 323i uses 320i pipes) and finally, a 325i inlet manifold and a remap to get it up to around 190-200 bhp. The diff and exhaust swap will set you back about 200 in good used parts.

do all that to a 2.8 for no more intial outlay in buying the car and they really start to get a move on.Andyboy wrote:The standard 323i is nice but severely overgeared - it runs a 2.93 328i final drive with 170 bhp when a 325i with 192 bhp had a 3.15.

The 323i is a 2.5L so would have that inlet?
Like I said, I'm more into getting the right spec, condition, mileage and colour than all this BHP noise - which seems to be the rather boring culmination of every discussion on the Zone at the mo...

Ratch if you can get a well cared for low mileage 323i they are a lovely car to own - I rate mine as one of the best cars I've ever had in terms of condition, spec and how it drove.
The only downside is that although the engine sounds lovely you do need to rag it a bit to get at the performance - its there its just not as effortless as the 328i.
I think you have the right idea - there are loads of cheap 328i weighbridge-dodgers out there for pennies - paying a bit more for an unmolested and well maintained 323i will get you a much nicer all-rounder and you won't have to worry about spending a lot on it.

Exactly.
My brother had a lovely one for ages which I quite liked. Until he drove it too long and let it overheat and cooked the head.

I've got a high mileage (200k) T plate (1999) genuine 323 sport tourer I'd get rid of if I got a reasonable offer on. don't really need it now I've got the alpina. Has had a load of work done - just fitted 328 lsd, new eibach springs, all new bushes on the rear inc subframe bushes, hub bushes, wishbone bushes, z axle bushes, new brake lines, undersealed etc, has e30 wishbones on the front, recent boge shocks up front and billy b4s on the back, good brakes, tyres, long mot, m3 mesh and evo lip on the front, sports half leather and late style steering wheel, engine has 200k on it but you'd never know, 'box return spring is tired but works fine. Been in the family for about 7 years or so, bought with 100k on it and fbmwsh. Is silver though, unfortunately!
