Hi, can anyone confirm which exact model of e36 these wheels are from? I'm thinking m3 evo?

Image

Also does anyone know how to tell if they are genuine?

They're labelled on the back with Made in Germany and a date stamp of 1997.
No BMW part numbers but I'm led to believe they are genuine, no BMW numbers as they were probably made by BBS/Ronal etc?

Image

Thanks in advance for any clues. I'm putting them on ebay so want to list as accurately as possible.

Can't quite tell from the photos, but didn't the genuine ones have 'MOTORSPORT' written around the inner bit? Perhaps the replicas do too, but it doesn't look like there are in this photo...

Not sure if this helps...

I can never remember how to tell

I know the ones with BMW one side, and 'motorsport' opposite are genuine, I've seen plenty of replicas with just 'Motorsport' on the front, and unstamped reps too although I'm sure some genuine ones were plain too.

I'm pretty sure all genuine rims should have a BMW part number on them no matter which external company actually made them. I have a feeling genuine ones should have a small rectangular indent for an M badge too.
cheers,

They don't look genuine to me, BMW refer to ET as IS and I can see an ET stamp..

I think these are originals. Should have the tiny M badge you can see at 6 o'clock, below the roundel.

Always thought the ones with Motorsport pressed into the face were copies as it looks gash.

there italian reps mate i have just sold three genuine ones and 1 identical to yours.dont get me wrong they are hard to tell the difference and they weigh about the same but theyre definately reps.the only slight difference is the gaps in the spokes, trust me you really have to look.should still make 150 to 250 though

I say replicas.

Genuine wheels will have BMW and motorsport on the face of the wheel.

The later ones, fitted to the evo, that are also staggered, have the writing removed from the face, but will have the M badge between 2 of the bolt holes.

They're fakes. The easiest way to tell is they don't have the small //M sticker near the centre.

Thanks for the input guys, I wasn't sure as I thought the genuine ones didn't have motorsport on them not vice versa. Maybe they varied over the years hence the confusion.

Still, off to ebay they go!

I'm pretty sure no replicas will have BMW stamped on the face, I've yet to see any that have anyway.

Correct. Replicas will not have BMW on the wheel.
