Non E30 i know, but a friend in need and all that.

Car is an 03 E39 525 Auto, before Christmas its water pump let go on the motorway, luckily just before some services, car was duly parked up and recovered by my friends local garage.

Garage is not an BMW independant, water pump was duly replaced, however since it was replaced the heating just blows cold.

Thermostat has been replaced, engine temp appears to be normal and temp dial when warm is in the same place on the dial as it was before.

Not much to go on, any ideas?????

These are pigs to bleed apparently. I have changed the coolant my 530d about ten times using this method with no problems. You need to get the front of the nag up in the air nice and high. Fill the coolant system up from the top radiator hose with the heater fan blowing, set to hot. Fill until you have the header tank full up. Start the car, run her on fast idle whilst checking the level and checking for hot air through the vents. Hope this is not an egg sucking post.

Scott.

They are self bleeding. There is a pump in the lower corner of the rad. All you do is set the heater to max, turn the ignition on with the header tank cap off, and the pump does the rest. You need to have a bottle of coolant handy while it bleeds as the level drops very quickly. IIRC you then start it, Rev it 3 or 4 times and recheck the level.

I've done a couple of pumps on these and stats also. Never had an issue with bleeding. My moneys that the heater was not set to max when they bled it.
