Bought an E36 316i as a daily drive through the winter thats a bit rough around the edges but a nice runner with a few luxuries.
Problem is the gear shift is like stirring a bowl of soup. Since the bits need replacing anyway, can I do a z3 shifter conversion like on the e30?
Also the hand brake isn't working, anything common to look out for?

yes you can fit the Z3 lever
h/brake probably just needs adjusting
just go over it and check all the usual things, same principles apply to all cars
generally e36's are pretty robust things

You'll find the rear shoes will need looking at as they've got rear drums. I'd expect to find a rusty siezed quadrant where the handbrake cable comes into the back plate. Free those off, adjust the shoes and lastly take up the slack at the lever end.ross_jsy wrote:Also the hand brake isn't working, anything common to look out for?

i've had one before, it is a great bit of kit.
they've got a few left on the shelf as they made a short production run of 10 kits recently. the only thing they could improve on is by making the selector rod a double shear one like the UUC item and AKG ones
i am also considering getting an e30 DTM style shifter like the AKG one

Hehe didn't fancy an e30 through winter.
Been cruising about in it today, quite enjoying it tbh. Makes a change from the fiesta turd I have been driving about in.
Anyone know what size tyres motorsports take? Just the fronts, got new back shoes on.
