I'm not planning on doing this, but I'm curious.

Supposing you had an M52B28 with stripped threads. Could you use everything bar the block with an M50B25 block?

Yes, M52 crank rods & pistons can be built into an iron block M50.

US spec E36 M3's were built like that, so too are the 3.0/3.2/3.3L Alpina's
Alpina B10 3.2L #187 (1 of 64 brought into the UK)
2.8L turbo build thread(work in progress)

Tempting Lee, especially as I have a crazy experiment I'd like to do with an M20 block and 'head which involves the parts you're offering. Trouble is I've already thrown the thick end of £3.5k at engine replacements/rebuilds in the last 2 years. Wor Lass would go light if I did another one now.

DanThe has done this, and Dezzy's build is based around an iron block.
Wieght saving is minimal, the difference in the blocks is only about 20kg.

I keep thinking about a 2.8 for the touring, thinking that a hybred M52 is the way to go.
