Ive stumbled across an engine out of an E34 Alpina B10

I didnt have much time to look today but from first glance it looked like a normal M30 with an Alpina ECU, he says he has the TB (which i didnt see) but he's getting all the parts together for me to go and have a 'proper' look tomorrow.

How can i tell if the engine is genuine? will the cam, block, head be stamped anywhere?

I understand these boat anchors kick out around 250 odd bhp and about the same Torque 8)

Should have an Alpina number stamped into the block and head.

They put out 254bhp in cat form.

Spec is, M88B35 rods steel rods, forged custom Mahle pistons, flowed big valve head, 268 degree cam, remapped ECU, 6 branch and manifold.

Standard throttle body by the way.

From what ive been reading there should also be a tab at the front of the head with the initials of who built the engine at Sytner

Barry, any idea's what numbers i should be looking for on the block or will it be stamped 'Alpina'? will there be a stamp on the cam?

Cheers for you help

btw im getting it for less than M52 money :)

no one at synters built the engines they just turned up on a pallet with all the other parts. All the engines were built by some deviant in Buchloe Alpinas HQ

you might get the intials of one of the techs who put the car together in sytners workshops though

Right, ive been to see the engine and wrote some numbers down

The engine number reads
B11/2
001**

Standard M30's start with 34 6K b

There is a number stamped into the flat on the head which reads
10343
My M30 has no numbers its just blank

ECU Alpina sticker reads
13 56 62 S

Vin sticker on the ECU reads WBA HD12080 3435872 which relates to an E34 535i

Im fairly certain the block isnt a standard M30 because of the number, also the oil filter housing looks like it had an oil cooler coming off it which also isnt standard.

Where's Pete :squint:

this is the biggest clue as the B6, B10 and B11 3.5 donks are the same just the B6 is E30, B10 E34 and B11 E32.

my hunch would be its the real deal. As barry said B11 stamped on the block, ecu sticker in red with alpina written on it?

Certainly on the E30's i've had they have C2 stamped on the blocks. I'm also not sure how true the 4 digit stamping is on the head as my own touring engine has 5 digits also instead of the 4 everyone says. Its 100% a genuine head!

Just another thought, the build date on the car is aug 88 does this mean it will be the non cat 261hp flavour?
