Worn out suspension, engine oil leaks, misfires from failed coils, auto boxes misbehaving.

Other than that, not to bad.

I know these have sealed for life boxes, but still need oil and filter changed.

Drove one for a few miles when they first came out, my boss bought a 645ci. Decent bit of shove, but a bit sterile otherwise IMO

I owned an E63 645i for 2 years before moving it on.

My business means I do a lot of motorway mileage and subsequently need a comfortable cruiser with a bit of go when necessary.

Overall I'd say that it was a good car for the purpose that I needed it for, but the fuel consumption was shocking. Average 80mph cruising on the motorway would see returns of 23-25 mpg. Urban driving (weekend shopping and running kids around) was resulting in 14-17mpg! The cost to fill the car up from empty was around £75.00

As previously mentioned by E30BeemerLad, the drive is somewhat sterile and the run flats give a firm ride, but I found them to be too unpredictable when pushing on a bit (on a track of course!).

So IMO, great car for 2 people to drive quickly in comfort to France or on the motorway in the UK, but if you plan to potter around in it with lots of short trips, best bring a petrol tanker behind you.

On a final note, the sealed for life gearbox regularly leaked (mostly on my freshly tarmaced driveway) and after a long journey it would select a gear at random, any gear really, just not the one I wanted.

Due to their size the front electric windows often jammed as well and I spent in excess of £480 on new motors in the time I owned it. If you can live with these things and the poor fuel consumption then the E63 is for you :)

What's your surname Steve ? Is it Wonder by any chance ?

Why would anybody want to tie up a not inconsiderable amount of money in something so ugly ? :?

Don't bother. They're big ugly buggers that don't do anything better than a 330Ci. They have all alloy E60 type suspension that costs a sodding fortune, the autobox has the fantastic plastic sump/filter that leaks (£600 to replace) and they're a minefield of electrical issues.

If you can find one, a really late low mileage 840Ci is much nicer. Unlike the 6 Series which looks and feels like a big fat Ford Probe, the 8 Series at least looks and feels special. A good 840Ci Sport, well maintained, will hold it's value now. They were lusted after when new, unlike the 645i which was really a bit of a flop - a good enough car, but not an object of desire.
