private plate transfer help

i have a private plate M3 BGJ on my m3 but i want to sell it.how do i go about getting it put on retention and will the original plate still be registered to my car???any help please and if any zoners want it you can have first dibs

If you register your intention with any of the major personalised registration number sites they will help and possibly do all the nitty-gritty for you (for a cut).
There's also a lot of info on the DVLA website regarding this, but essentially you need to apply for the registration to go on a retainer which costs a fair bit. Not sure, but I think the original plate can go back on but there will be info on that at the website and I'm sure a few people on here will know for sure...

Apply to put it on retention, the cost is £105 - £80 transfer fee and £25 retention fee, go to your local dvla office with logbook, MOT and the serial number of the tax disc - or take it in depending where you've parked !
They will then issue, or should issue you with the VRM that belonged to car before the cherished number had been applied, it really depends on the time scale about getting the same number back.
The whole process could take upto 14 days.
I would chance my arm on flebay or the E36/E46's froums in the hope that someone with the same intials want an M3 plate.

crikey thats pricier than i thought but they normally sell for good enough money for it to be worthwhile, i also done a google search on BGJ and it came up with mortgage advisor company so i will contact them too it might be of interest too them especially if the owner drives an m3
