Just bought a 98 Compact Ti to break.
Is there a way to bypass the EWS 3 as I dont have the chipped key?

I dont think there is, i suppose you could order one from BMW using the vin but that depends how much they want.

Was just reading through your Compact thread :P
just had a look through the service wallet and it has the EWS 3 card with the 5 digit deactivation code but think this is only relevant to the remote and nothing to do with the chipped key?
My own E36 is EWS 3 and the key I got for the Compact looks poverty spec in comparison.

Did yours have an LSD fitted originally?
The one im breaking is a Sept 98 Ti Sport so be nice to think they come as standard?

Mine didnt have an LSD and i dont think many of them did, ive read its something to do with them having ASC but im guessing you'll check anyway :D

Does it start off the key you got?

You could of had my set up but i gave it away with the engine as i didnt think it was worth anything on an M44 :(

You can order a plastic key which is cheaper, about £20, the normal key is now nearly £40

You wont start it without the chip
