Sorry this isnt about my E30 but I also have a '98 318is that wont start and has a motor that is running all the time even when the ignition is off, the only way I can turn it off is to disconect the battery?
I went to start the car and this wining motor started and then wouldnt stop!? Someone said it might be the starter motor spinning and not engaging? I cant even see the starter, where is it??
Hope that makes sence??
Again sorry its not about my E30 but Im really stuck at the moment
starter constantly spinning?

Sounds like the solenoid is jammed. Find the starter, then belt it with a hammer!

Its on the passangers side of the bellhousing. You might have to do it from underneath
