In the process of fabricating new sill patches and jacking points on my son's E34 and as you can see the bottom edge is completely shot. Can anybody tell me if there should be drainage slots for the sunroof pipe in the sill edge? Has anyone got pictures of a naked E34 sill?

Ah I would have expected that as a bit of a no brainer, hence removing my comment. Interested to see the results :thumb:

lots of this lurking, done quiet a few late E39s too.

I assume the upper castle section was repaired, then the new sill closer panel fitted ?

This is becoming a major issue on all E34s with side skirts, the same old story, mud and crap gets in ,can't get out and stays nice and damp chewing away at your sills :(

I recently ruined someones day/week/year whilst doing a pre purchase inspection on a 3.8 6 speed M5, I spotted the tell tale signs of sill nasties and removed the side skirt to find large lumps of sill ,inner sill , front wing and A post MIA ! :(

The owner had spunked 10 bags on this turd in the last 18 months getting it up tpo scratch because his friendly 'specialist' told him it was a really nice example !

Had a reply from an Australian chap that has helped me out in the past and it sheds a bit more light on the slots and bottom lip shape. It looks like the slots have no bottom edge and the water drains through these on to the outer sill which has a teapot type lip. It beggars belief that BMW put so much engineering into that jacking point and then punched three slots in the sill lip to get rid of the water.
