Nice car - shame about the 'wood' though. I love the wheels!
Is this the same 540 you've had for a while?

Yes it is. Just never taken any decent photos of it until now that I'm selling it. I never liked the wood myself but I reckon if it were sprayed with some black tint it would look cool.

I'd love a 540i but it would have to be the manual box too.
325i Tech 1 Touring, breaking.
2.5 high comp. M20, 3.64 LSD, Fully undersealed, Spax springs & Bilstein shocks, s/s exhaust, Alpina rep wheels and more.

Where is the link Oakey. I couldn't find it on pistonheads, there are so many e39's!
As someone asked you for the link, I think that is ok to post it.

Cheers gatesy! The obc at the moment is claimin 21mpg with an average speed of 18mph. Which I have to say is VERY good for a 4.4L V8!! It is better on fuel than my e30
Looks like someone beat me to it Jon

Reminds me of when Autocar first tested the E39. The newer ones were never as perfect as the E39.
Timeless design.

I love em and ill have another manual at some point, or an m5. Surprisingly good on fuel and if you get a good one they're not expensive to maintain.
I haven't just bought this by the way, I'm selling it.

nice car that Oakey. Liking the colour.
One of the first thing I did was get rid of the wood.

Very nice and original, I'd peal off the 540i badge - proper wolf if sheep's clothing

Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.
Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

The original sport package had antracite headlining and style 49 alloys. like my 2000 523iSE had.

I thought only the M-Sport and M5 had the anthracite headlining? i had a e39 with the sport package and it had the same alloys on as oakey's 540 and seats/steering wheel/suspension and was confirmed as the sport package by Bmw. Style 49s were SE optional wheels i believe?

Nope. The sport package had the black headlining and the style 49's on a pre faclift and a different rim on the post facelifts. it's in the brochures in 97, 99, 00 and 02.
Quite a few demonstrators in 99 and 00 had the sport package fitted as they brought the "official" sport on line.
The rims on Oakeys were found on loads of 530's and 540's of that era.

Being pedantic here but there were no 530s between 1996 and late 2000

Congrats on the sale.
There's an 'end early' type option on ebay.
