I've a p plate 320i e36 (wrong on so many counts- I know...) and I have these questions:
1, is it an m52 rather than an m50?
2, would an e36 318is box or an e36 323i box fit?

It may need a new box you see.
Thanks folks.

No such thing as an M52B20..

B25 or B28 only

Both boxes would fit, with relevant prop/flywheel etc etc..

323i box would be the better choice

Eh? I've seen plenty of alloy block M52 320i's.

I think there mainly outside UK for E46. E39's had them in 520i pre-facelift.

M52 320i's are quite rare - they were discontinued in 1997 so you'll only see N and P plate cars. Every 320i Touring though is an M52.

My P plate 320i has an alloy block for all I can see, but in all honest when Jhonno stated otherwise I was inclined to think it was a clean iron block.

Prior to buying this I thought 320i/ 325i M50. 323i/ 328i M52.

Not an unfair assumption...

All the same, which box has a similar set of ratios to the 320i m52 box?
