Strange to swap out that V8. They never made a 535i touring so it should surprise a few people.

Yeah i was thinking sport bumpers to make it more oem..i will wait for that one to get damaged on a speedbump as ive come close a couple of times already
The V8 got swapped due to it failing originaly in 2001 and then again fataly in 2003 due to nikasil and the owner just had enough and put in the m30. Ive got an engineers report on the conversion along with a stack of receipts. Sounds like it was quite a lot of work but seems to be worth it and is a rare conversion. its also quite good on fuel unlike the V8

I had a Petrol Mica 520i Touring a few years ago, a 1996 manual with cloth trim, no sunroof and a/c. It was a BMW individual colour, E34 only as far as I'm aware.

Ive only seen a handful in that colour, nice on a touring, shame they didnt fit a decent engine though, the proper 4ltr V8 would have finished it off nicely

So you would have turned your nose up at 280hp and 295Lbsft325isporttech1 wrote:Cheers for the comments lads, its the fact that it has got the m30 in i bought it if it had a 3 or 4 litre V8 i probably wouldnt of bothered![]()
The reason for that is the m30 has a lot more possibilties for greater power increases.
I know I wouldnt, but then you cant have everything can you

The only horror stories are the ones that had nikasil bore coatings and were run on shite fuel, lumps with the steel liners are fine, the 3 litres are pretty pointless, only the 4 litre donk will do!

I like that, is it really more economical than the multi valve/cam v8? I wouldn't have thought there'd be much difference!

Its hard to tell yet but i know its better than the 325i touring i just sold but that had a few issues with petrol. Its a lot easier to cruise in 4th/5th and do over 30mpg, im getting low 20's around town with mixed driving. My mate had a 3 litre v8 and it consistantly did 13mpg and low 20's on a run. I think the e39 V8's had improved fuel economy over the e34's.BMracing wrote:I like that, is it really more economical than the multi valve/cam v8? I wouldn't have thought there'd be much difference!

They did indeed, that's not bad economy for you though to be fair. It definitely has its own appel over a v8. Has it still got the v8 steering and everything do you know, with the centre track rod? Thinking about it, it might have been just e39s that had that.325isporttech1 wrote:Its hard to tell yet but i know its better than the 325i touring i just sold but that had a few issues with petrol. all e34's had the centre track rod (steering box) setup all 6pot e39's had racks the v8's had boxes.
but thats a good point as alot of the e34 v8s came with a better servotronic steering setup that was nearly as good as what the m5 came with, a lot better than a 535i steering box anyway! there would have been no reason to change that over back to the lesser one in the conversion.
i want it lol!

As far as i know it has still got the v8 steering. If it hasnt it will be getting replaced with one anyway as there is some light play in it i must admit..The bills say it had the 535i engine, lsd, gearbox, prop, and driveshafts everything else should be V8. I agree it has a special appeal its not just another V8 or 520i its by what i can find the only 535i touring im surpised thow i thoiught someone would of done it but i cant find anotherBMracing wrote:They did indeed, that's not bad economy for you though to be fair.
