One of the cars that saved BMW was the four door saloon called the Neue Klasse (New Class). These were available IIRC in 1.8 and 2 litre variants. The 1.8 was an 1800 and the 2 litre was a 2000. BMW decided to develop a two-door version with a 1600cc which was called a 1600-2 (1600cc and 2 door). This was so popular that they then made a 2 litre version and called it the 2002.

Hope that answers your question. :)

Nice car OP! I used to have a 2000 Touring and loved it! Just out of interest, why are you changing the colour? Or is it simply being restored?

Hi

Good luck with your build. I`ve just recently finished building an M2 Alpina Replica.

Will be at Lakeside meet on Saturday.

Is it a round light or a square light? My brother has an Inka orange '02 and it is probably my favourite colour.

right guys..... im not going to right up a big story as this will take ages with the stage im at now. il post up the pics and they will more or less tell the story....

the change of colour......because it is having the green and blue alpina decals on it.... looks best on white imo.

the reason.... i bought this car a year ago after being told edinburgh retro cars had restored it from the owner at the time.... my god was i in for a shock.... also may i add, i informed the said company i had bought the car at that point they said they had done loads of body and mechanical work..... once they seen some of my pics emailed to them i never heard back!! shock!!!!

here goes from taking it into my workshop to how it sits now

also had a full roof lining made in this retro perforated material

im going to leave it at that point for now. its taking ages to go through all the pics i have,.....

continued very soon!!

I remember this being featured in a magazine and it looked really well restored. The pictures would suggest otherwise... 8O

thats why you do resto's yourself or dont bother.
a million cut corners can be covered easily with filler and a paint job. they spend their time bodging it then charge you for it.

least its being done right this time by someone who spends the money on parts insted of labour!

Awesome!! The 02 is this winters project for me, will be watching this closely. What sort of power do you think the motor will be making once full setup? Mines currently got a blown head so the engine conversion is very interesting stuff. Were the engine mounts easy enough to make? Keep up the good work.
