just wondering is it easy to clock a early model 320d. been looking at a 2000 model with 80kmiles. no real major service history to back this up. but is 80k very low for that year

It WILL be clocked. £60 gives you any mileage you want !
I assume it is a UK car ? If so do a HPI check or a MOT record check (this will only cover the last several years but is free) The MOT record check can be done online by anybody providing you have the UK reg number and the document number off the UK reg document or any MOT certificate number.

If it looks/sounds too good to be true, then it usually isn't true_bmw_316_lad_ wrote:just wondering is it easy to clock a early model 320d. been looking at a 2000 model with 80kmiles. no real major service history to back this up. but is 80k very low for that year

If it looks like a bag of nails and drives like one too then i would suggest it is.
However, dont disregard it completely. I've worked on a few cars recently that are 7, 8, 9 and nearly 10 years old, that havnt in broken the 50k mark... some people dont use cars as often as we do!
As pete suggests, a bit of background work will always help

Bit off topic, but I had thought that with the E46/E39 era onwards, the mileage was pretty tamper proof as it is stored in 3 places - dash, ECU and key. I thought the dash illuminated a red tamper dot if all three fail to match.
Am I wrong?
Martin.

Ask this question on www.bmw-driver.net its an irish BMW forum and someone may even know the car.

Its not that low, when you think there is loads of e30s around 100k at 20 year old +_bmw_316_lad_ wrote:just wondering is it easy to clock a early model 320d. been looking at a 2000 model with 80kmiles. no real major service history to back this up. but is 80k very low for that year

doesnt sound dodgey too me, not all 320d's are owned by reps
Don't you believe it ! Clocking is still rife even though it is so easy to check a cars paper trail. As long as people are more worried about the speedo reading than proper service records and invoices people will keep clocking cars
and I bet the vast majority of those have 'lost' miles allong the way too!Alex wrote:Its not that low, when you think there is loads of e30s around 100k at 20 year old +_bmw_316_lad_ wrote:just wondering is it easy to clock a early model 320d. been looking at a 2000 model with 80kmiles. no real major service history to back this up. but is 80k very low for that year
