Why are they all so unhelpful on there? I've been reading on there a long time and half of peoples posts are just ignored. Like mine yesterday!

Its like a ghost town on there also compared to here, but we are lucky i suppose.

I think my e36 questions could be answered on here better i expect!

Or am i being a brat?!

E36 owners are a bit 'special' :P

i think they have less of a 'scene' than we do.

you should try the seat cupra forum my little bro uses sometimes. they're only interested in what bodykits/wheels fit, what dealership will do them the best trade in on a newer model and what dealership to take the car to when new brake pads etc are needed 8O they have NO IDEA how the cars work. at forum meets they have a 'no car chat' rule! :wtf:

I just noticed that having been a member of the e36coupe forum for a few years, I have had my right to reply to for sale ads removed as part of a blanket rule for people with under a certain number of posts! :x :x :x

no heres what i posted

Hi all,

I've got to fix the family heir loom P reg 323i saloon. Its only covered 65,000 and has been in the family from new so there is sentimental value to keep it going. The engine is nikasil and its using so much oil now and running so rough its time to throw it in the bin.

I've found a good 2.8 to replace it with from an auto coupe down the breakers yard. What i'm asking is am i going to encounter any dramas? I'm getting the engine ECU too. Onhe is hoping that a spigot bearing for the 2.8 and alot of nuts and bolts later and it will all work! but it rarely does run this smooth with cars! lol I've got a complete 328i exhaust for it also. I'm a bit of a novice with E36's so apologies for all the questions. Will the 323's gearbox be man enough for the 2.8? I've looked on real OEM and 323's run a 2.93 final drive like the 328's but the gearboxes are different. Are the ratios the same does anyone know?
Is the 323i clutch man enough as i was going to re use it on the 2.8 also.

I'm guessing i'm going to hit EWS dramas? Does anyone know someone who could remap the 323 ecu with 2.8 maps and then i wouldn't have any EWS dramas? Many thanks!

I dont know why you bothered

Gearbox is slightly different as the 328i bell housing is a bit bigger, ratios are the same, it is plenty man enough as is the 323i clutch

The EWS wont be a drama, either take all the bits from the 328i and swap the key chips or if you want to be able to order a new key for your 323 that will work get the ECU aligned to the 323 EWS, will cost about £80 on average

Too many questions in one post for them to cope with,
Ive posted questions, kept it brief and still had to wait two days to get an answer

Si. I feel the same re the 5 series forum. It's not as bad as e36.com but it's very quiet. You'd have thought that there would have been at least one person who'd changed a wiper motor on an e39 :?

I used to know a couple of the founders of e36.com Kul and Russell.

it is just an K&N with a heatshield. Seems to work from what ive read?

I've bought the engine today, £350 i thought that was a good price for a 2.8. Heard it run and drove it in the yard. No blue smoke! I've got the ECU also. So if i go in there and ask for the chip out of the key then?!

There's another one called 'Fogging the airbox', done it to the compact and it made f*ck all difference

I agree the forsale section is useless too not being forum based

I will disagree!(someone had to) Theres alot of people on there who really know their stuff (KOS is on there for starters) and i think the journal section is a real treat, rich with loads of photos and info. Its ideal for inspriation or ideas.

Also the layout is superb and easy to navigate :D

You need the EWS module and the chip. You do know why a cone filter flows more air than a paper filter right?

I couldn't find a 2.8 lump for anything less than £600 plus VAT

why do you need to post on for sale forums anyway?, its not a discussion its someone trying to sell their things, i like the e36coupe.com for sale section because you dont get muppets ruining your adverts :)

I agree, the e36 forum and the 5 series forum are both dead compard to the zone but on the plus side there are far less 'tards on them! M5board is far more active for the 5 but they obviously only chat about M5's!

The DaveF thing they all go on about is fitted to my M3, I dont believe the heatshield is efficient enough around town in traffic IMO... I'll be taking it off as soon as I order the standard intake box pipe from BMW...

Re EWS:
Either get the EWS module and the key(s) from the donor as well as the ECU or, once all in place, take it along to a decent independant and get them to recode the ECU to your EWS/Key combo

why do you think Bodger? are you f**king thick?

Scrap the EWS lark, because its from an auto, the engine ECU will always be looking for the auto box and the DME will need tinkering so i'm told today.

My dealer also told me the 2.8 will run with the 323 ecu. One of the techys said plenty of 323's and 530's left the workshops with 2.8 and 4.0 bottom ends during the nikasil era!

Someone on e36 coupe has offered to send me a 2.8 map to load onto my 323 ecu! nice chap

This is bollox, my chromie has an auto ECU and loom. It might 'run' but it wont run right on a 323i ECU, been there.......

How you going to load the map si?
Easiest way is to take the ECU/module and chip from the donor

No problems using an ECU and loom from an auto or is there any specific mods that need doing to use them in a manual car?

I far as i know the DME comunicates with the EGS and vice versa.

Dan, i see. Where is the EWS ecu that i need? I just want this and say the chip out of the main key. Will i want the ignition barrel?

By running it on a 323 ecu i meant so i could take it somewhere straight away and have some stock 2.8 maps installed on it? doesn't seem a bad idea either, as the scrappy isn't cheap where the engine is coming from. They just don't know the true worth of M52 2.8's!

They said the engine ecu would be looking for the auto box for some reason?

I'm using an auto ECU on my M52 shizzle. One thing that bugged me was that when driving normally and changing gear, as soon as you let off the gas abit and dip the clutch, it held onto the revs a bit and would rev up ever so slightly. Wasn't a problem that I noticed if giving it beans and shifting quick, but normal town driving sometimes was a bit spaz like.

Would that have any significance to things? Or more likely I'm a bodger and have a vacum leak? :)
