If it's a genuine sport then it could be a bargain at £500. You will be able to tell by the V5, the genuine sport body kit and the front seats, plus they have slightly lower suspension and thicker anti roll bars. The usual 'killers' on E34's are rotten jacking points, wear & tear in the MANY steering components (Wandering/60mph shimmy), knackered rear axle beam bushes, overheating. Then you get down to the 'niggle list' such as dead central locking motors, wiper arm clonks etc.
Good luck,
Shaun M

They're good solid cars. Less responsive than a E30 as they're a lot larger but also better suited to motorway miles and still rewarding on the A and B roads.
for £500, you can't really go wrong. Just make sure it's got a replacement water pump with a metal impeller as the standard ones are plastic and WILL fall apart at some point and overheat very quickly.
also as said above, check for steering box wear and bushes. take it for a test drive and make sure you can get it to 60 or 70mph. if the subframe bushes are shot, it'll feel like it has flat rear tyres and wander around the road, especially in the slow lane on a motorway where the ruts will make the rear try to steer around by itseldf. if the steering is vague and sloppy, then it's in need of a host of front balljoints (lots on these cars) or the steering box adjusting. if the steering is dull and lifeless and doesnt self centre very well, the steering box has probably been adjusted too tight in an attempt to hide a worn steering box or balljoints.
rust around the filler cap is common, as is rust on the jacking points. the M-tech trims on the door buttoms can also hide all sorts of nasties and are often hanging off as a result.
find a good one though and they're lovely. also a doddle to work on.
let us know how you get on

heres mine at oulten drifting!

there great cars! i love mine and have had e30 sports and i favour the e34 now! even if the bushes are dead as long as it is solid round the above said points get it! if you buy it and throw about £8-900 at it in bushes and new shocks and springs you will have a car that will outhandle things you think it would not!
they dont seem as big as they are either they do seem to shrink and to me feel like an e30 (to be fair there is a bit less feel than a e30 due to it having a steering box)
mine has been everything i could want from a car that the e30 could not offer as well as the e34
great for motorway work runs
great for drifting
great for general fun!
great for passengers and baby seats etc
everything i could want and its done near 250k on its engine it left the factory with!
dont think about it just do it!!!!!!!
sorry for going on but i really do love mine and have never looked back!

cheers for the advice lads , had a quick nose round it,as it was gone 4pm .
i didnt get to drive it but will before i hand over any cash, the guy said its a sport on the book , its a 91 on a j plate.
its got 17"alpina reps i think, cream leather that he fitted, a nasty small wood st/w 2 bald front tyres , a wood screw hanging out the edge of 1 rear tyre.
i run it up from cold an it was running for approx 45 min and it went to half way and stayed there , the milage says 122 000 if it genuine.
got him down to 600 but he wants the plate so ive gotta wait until he sorts that.
its black with the kit an looks mean, but neglected, ive got 2 pics that i'll post up.

those wheels look deeper than the usual BK171 apina replica scrap. they may be genuine!
Harge exhaust
AC Schnitzer badges
Alpina wheels
it's got to be fast with that lot on
lose the mirrors and badges. find a replacement fuel cap, centre caps and trim piece for the rear valence and it'll be a nice chariot
well worth the money i reckon, providing the number plate is all sorted out for you.
