hi,my e36 320i is struggling to start,i have to push the black ring around the ignition in hard before it will start. i would like to replace the whole thing as i only have one key and that has the chip glued inside it (bloke before me bodged it!) can i just go scrappy and unplug a few bits, take keys and barrel and im away? if so what bits do i need? ta

tou need to get a replacement set of keys from a BMW dealer. Its the easiest option and cheapest to get round it. The EWS transponder in the key needs to be in the antenna that surrounds the keyhole. Sounds like the bodges glue etc may be causing a problem
Replacement coded key is about £40 for the E36 IIRC

the only problem is that the ignition barrel doesnt match the rest of the car,so maybe its all been changed already? i'll give bmw a call, see what they say....not a massive problem at the mo but im worried it would get worse and not be able to start at all, thanks
