Hi all
Been on various Mini forums but cannot seem to get a straight answer. I've gone and bought my sister a mini and found that the temp guage sits a little above half but it doesn't overheat.
It was the same when the previous owner took it for a long test drive, and when the drive back it was the same. Now the Mini2 forum suggests that the guages are fairly inaccurate.
Does anyone here own or had experience of the Mini?
Replies appreciated.

I would say its nothing to worry about. i have 5 years experience working on MINI's and the gauges arent great!
However, take a torch and look down the side of the head, between the battery box and the rocker cover, where, the coolant pressure cap is. This black plastic item is the thermostat housing
have a good look around it, paying attention to where the head meets the housing and also where the bolts go through the housing into the head. The gaskets on the thermostats fail and leak from these areas, causing overheating, even if only slight!
Hope that helps
