Hi everyone ive just bought a bargain e34 525 sport as a project/winter hack.
Its got the m50b25 engine fitted which i think is the none vanos as its a 1992 model. Ive asked this question on the bmw5 forum but they seem most unhelpful and havent even answered so to hell with them :x

So does anyone know what i can do to liven this up a bit? Its not exactly slow its quite suprising actualy but its know were near as resonsive as my old tech1 which is a shame.

does anyone know if the ecu chips of ebay actualy work?

Here is the car in question....

Put the engine in an E30???

de-cat, then disconnenct the MAP sensor and fit a resistor from BMW in it's place. PM 'monkey' he's done it.

The engine might end up in an e30 next year when ive finished with it all depends on what i project i buy next, im already thinking of my next e30 :D

Do you know what the year goes up to for cars that dont have to have a cat fitted for the mot? from my recognition its 93, mines 10/92. Is the map sensor part of the de-cat setup?Il pm monkey about it.
Im looking for around 210-220bhp from this engine if its possible?
Is it also true a z3 or e36 short shifter fits the e34?im not liking the length of the throw :)

heres some pics of the engine bay mate....

don't think any m50s have a map sensor . i have only fitted a resistor in place if the canister valve as its not needed . that engine is a vanos lump .

^ I'd agree, finding another m50 for the e30 would probably work out less hassle than breaking the sport.

Not really....

They may be rare, but they are not exactly desirable are they, 525i with some bumpers and different seats, oh and an lsd if it hasnt been nicked already :)

Your first mod will be a new throttle inlet boot :)
Binning the cats wont make much difference, you will need cams for any reasonable upgrade in power
The Viper chips are good
Z3 shifter works great

mite do the z3 shifter thing on my sport, they really are great cars and i think in a few years when the m5 e34 goes up the sports may fetch a better price aswell as most of the std barges will be in scrappers by then.

i think myself (as much as i love the e30) a 525/535i sport is a really great car for the money at the present as imo the handle like a big e30 and although not as nimble with a few mods they can give a e30 sport a good run! and when you can buy a mint e34 sport from 1k for an e30 you are looking at 4k for a car in same condition (hence why i now own an e34!) i would love another sport but value for money reasons that the e34 is a fun cheap great lucking no brainer!

as for tuning the m50 i have a big bore throttle body, decat, stainless exhaust, viper 2 carbon inducion, and it was also chipped when i got it but due to it running too rich and having the odd stutter i went back to the oem ecu. getting a new ecu to put my chip in off speedtouch will let you know how i get on when its in. but i estimate with all this and the chip it will be putting out over 200bhp (i know there 192 std) but its done 215k now! still shifts! i would like more torque than anything really as used to have a 535i and even though there not worlds apart i do miss the M30 torque! so after chip i may be a bit nearer with out the evil m30 running costs!

hell yes! mine is sterling silver and has genuine throwing stars on looks really nice a tad lowerd (30mm i think) and is badged up as an m5! (previous owner did it!) but i like people trying to guess if its genuine or not! as it has the rear no plate bit and m5 clocks and the m5 centre console bit! so to look at it is an m5! (or so i tell my self!) also have put the oil pressure oil temp and volts gauges out of an audi coupe in it for a bit more engine info! stands me at about a grand now best car for the money i have ever had!

E34's do look nice & can be a very comfortable, reasonably (for their size) nippy motor,
But then again I'm biased !!
:D
