He was asking for it.
However, I also got stung with a scam.
120D, nice price, nice nick, private sale, taxed an' all. Drove to see it at the registered address, HPI'd it, all clear. Guy says he wants a grand deposit!!!! I tell him no and give him 250. He writes me a simple receipt and I go home.
He disappears off the face of the earth!
The one mistake I made? It was a block of nice modern funky flats but I didn't actually SEE him come out or go back in. When I check the car out on the DVLA, it's not taxed at all and has been liable for 2 months and not on sorn. So it pays you to look closer at the tax disc
What we think is, is this scrote, chooses 1 or 2 days to sell a car. He advertises it attractively using a £4.99 tesco pay and go sim number (or even uses these new "safephone" options), and waits. He sees 2 / 3 maybe 4 people in a day and takes deposits off them all. Imagine if they all paid him a grand?? We also thnk he works for a car auction, a dealer, possibly collection and delivery. He has full access to all the papers, keys etc. All he has to do is strike lucky and get a car registered in flats / Stick it on the net / wait for the phone to ring and drive it there.
Try and get him now? Phone just goes straight into message.
I've been buying and selling since 1982 and not been caught yet. Spotted a couple of scams when something don't smell right and met many sellers who i wouldn't hand 7 pence to let alone 7 grand!
Do I feel stupid? yes. But I never saw it coming either!!!!!

i read in the paper last week that some surgeon or similar was scammed by the old nigerian money out of the country transfer scam. iirc he lost over £250000 from his account. i though people like surgeons were meant to be smart?

There have been a few recently on pistonheads as my brother rang me about a cheap mercedes a class diesel for his missus .
Pictures were recent and in the uk lokking at the cars in the background and the seller has emigrated to ... Madrid and taken the car .
That was the same , Asking for payment then they supply shipping of the car .
I told him if it was genuine fly over and drive it back and i guaranteed the car would not be there .
Scamming barstards
