as it has e30 rear suspension etc, same engine and a bit less weight, do the compacts handle like an e30 and are quite easy to get sideways? dont realy like the look of the compact infact i dispise it lol but as value for money most mint i.s's can fetch around the 2k 2.5k mark would the t.i be a more value for money option with out the rust worries?
any one got one whos had or driven both? if so let me know what you think.
e36 318ti. is it the new e30 318is?

there was a thread on here not so long back comparing the two. the ti is fractionally heavier, and fractionally slower 0-60 from memory.
they don't handle the same, but the compacts are a lot of fun in their own right. helps that a lot of people assume theyre all driven by old women. i've got a 316 compact, and as a no fuss, no drama, cheap runaround it's perfect, and great fun to throw around, even if it's dead slow.
compacts are much better value than e30s, £1500 will get you a nice tidy, sensible miles Ti without a spec of rust. there are quite a few people on here who own, or have owned compacts. although of course there are plenty of e30 fans who despise them.
having a hatchback, with a fairly low, nice and wide opening, and split fold rear seats is a huge plus too.
i bought mine in july, have done around 12k miles in that time and it's needed nothing spending on it other than a taillight bulb and an oil change (excluding the bits i changed for the fun of it.
the later msport kitted versions with the 1.9 m44 are the ones to go for, but command quite a premium over the earlier 'normal' Tis
oh, and the dashboards are pretty ugly, so make sure you get one with a black dash which hides it quite well. lots out there with hideous beige cloth and dash

Ive got an M-Sport 318ti and I must admit that its my favourite car ( of my collection ) handling is ace fun and its a great car to jump in and drive to the other end of the country and back ( which I seem to do quite a lot these days )
Personally I think the compact is the best of the E36 shapes!
