Why didnt BMW put the 2.0 engine out of the 5 series into the 3 series then we would have 150bhp 320i's. BMW are so silly
Why?

Early e34 520's had the m20 lump in them. This is the m50 24v lump. It wasn't around.

Later ones yes. Early ones had the m20. M20 was old shit and slow. the M50 was the 24v replacement for the old 12v technology. The M50 was also in 2.5 litre variant. This is where my knowledge gets hazy: I'm sure they were used in early e36's too and possibly up to 2.8 litres? Some more clever person will put me right on that.

GOOD POWER.
Simon, I've been told by someone that because of the atumatic gearbox on my alpina it will probably drop 10bhp on the road realistically.
Its sitting at 210 now, so will it be 20 then?
Doesn't sound quite right?
I know a automatic 2.7 will beat it but 10 bhp loss?

Very few Alpina 2.7s ever made the factory quoted power figures.....BMWAlpinaC2 wrote:GOOD POWER.

20 years of wear and tear and bad maintenance usually take their toll as well
