A friend of mine bought an 88 520 with the intention of converting it into a track car. It has an M20 b20 at the moment and he is considering replacing it with an b25. I assume the engine from a 325 could be used as it might be easier to find one rather than a 525 M20.
Would the engine be the same as the facelift e30?
He is not experienced changing engines so just wants a simple plug and play swap
e34 M20 engine

A facelift 325i engine would slot straight in, you'd just need to use the engine mounting arms from the 520i engine.
However, it would still be a bit pedestrian given the e34's not inconsiderable mass. He should at the least fit a m30 3.5, or even better a M60 4.0 if he wants something which would be more entertaining.

Thanks. I would agree its not going to be quick but its what he wants to do. Think its more the fun of the project than the power.
