Anyone have a rough idea on how much it should cost for me to put a new airbag in a bmw e46 compact

which airbag dude??? , there are loads in the E46 stumpies.
S/wheel airbag would be the obvious one, the module comes complete from the stealers and you'll need a new cover for it too, Needs to be coded once swopped.
Find out what you have , there are 3 types iirc, dependant on which steering wheel is fitted, you may also require a new slip ring
