Well... after being out of it for a long time, I'm back in to the BMW scene again... sort of!
Dad and I have just bought a '71 2002ti. It's been stripped and painted... so all we have to do is put it back together again. Easier said than done. Everything except the suspension and brakes are in boxes... somewhere!
It's going to require many hours of research and image retention, as well as many phone calls to Jaymic I would have thought too!
We bought it of a local ex-BMW technician, so help is always at hand if we need it there too.
I'll post up pics as we go... but it's not going to be overnight!
Cheers,
Giles.

If I can help at all, let me know...
It was a few years ago, now, but I built up a racing Ti replica from scratch
Is yours a genuine Ti? If so, I it will be LHD as there weren't (AFAIK) any RHD Tis
Actually, come to think of it, 71 is too late for a genuine Ti...68-69 only, IIRC
Got any pics?

Hmmm... well, it's not a tii as it's not fuel injection... so I was told it was a ti. It's a 2-litre running a single carb, but it comes with a set of twin choke Solex's with manifold, etc.
Maybe it's just a 2002 then (without ti or tii tagged on the end).
this is the only pic I have... a bit small!

Ok...It'll be a standard 2002...
The Ti was with twin sidedraught Del'orto 40DHLA carbs and was LHD only...
Not sure what the Solex carbs are from, but don't believe any 02 came with twin Solex carbs...
Still worth restoring and it is not a mission to put twin sidedraughts on an M10...If you have a suitable manifold you are 90% of the way there...
I'd recommend Weber 45DCOE for road or trackday use...50DCO for race. All depends on the spec of the rest of the engine and the cam used...
The Del'Ortos aren't as easy to maintain, is all...Never used twin sidedraught Solexes either...

It's just for a bit of fun really... no track use, just normal road use, so not planning anything exciting... just putting it back together as standard (apart from the carbs of course).
It'll be hard enough to do that with getting it in bits and pieces and not really knowing much about 2002's. Part of the fun though, and they're not exactly complicated cars.
Apparently it's 'Granada' Red...

2002 did come with twin solex carbs, my dad had one back in the day! Yours looks nice do like the look of those wheels aswell. Me and my brothers have taken on a joint project doing a 2002 up, not progressed much its been gutted inside on the rust hunting exercise and thats about it. Its a solid example tho little to no rust to be found. Had the a complete suspension front and rear blasted and powder coated from my dads original 2002 we found rotting in the blokes garden he sold it to many many years ago bought it back off him but it was a lost cause but still have most the parts from it. Thats the reason we got this one
Call me on 07858 151 197 - leave a message if no answer as i am probably busy! Will call you back!
Please email thru the website as not always on the zone for pm's.
Thanks

A mate of mine in Derbyshire has a 40'000 mile from new 20002 Auto - rusty doors and wings but solid and complete. He also has a restored Tii and would sell the car minus the engine which he's talking about keeping as a spare. There's nothing like a complete car to raid for bits, screws and clips and seeing where everything should go. It's a 1973 L or M plater in Fjord blue.
Carbs: the standard 2002 came with a single choke 40PDSI Solex and later models (mainly autos) had the 32/32 DIDTA twin choke Solex. Ti cars (not sold in the UK) had a pair of Solex 40PHH carbs which were the Solex equivalent of the 40 DCOE Weber. The only UK BMW's to have these were the 2000Ti and 2000CS.
When the 2000 was replaced by the 520 in 1972, they switched to Stromberg CD's.
