e30 m3 engine would be nice! but an m20 should go in easy enough, a nice change would be an 1.8 i.s engine that would be nippy and balanced.

I certainly wouldn't want to put anything bigger than an M20 in something as small as a 2002. M42 or S14, depending on budget :D

How about a non-bmw 4pot?

s14 is a popular choice, I have a picture of a 'M2' somewhere. Possibly the best choice in terms of weight and power.

They never reached the full potencial of the engine the ti came with so why change it. (m10 + turbo) They only ever used blocks that had 10k + on them too, to make sure they were proven.

M10 motor that's already in there. I have a 2002 ti block overbored to 2010cc and a 121 head with 292 cam. run on twin webers or bike carbs it should give 160bhp. Strap on the FI from an early 318/518i and blow it and get a lot more, though you wouldn't be able to use the 292 cam with a blower. M10 also used as Brabham BT52 formula 1 motor, big following and loads of cheapish parts from the states. The M10 served as the basis for the first M3 anyway. Very strong motor and capable of developing a lot more power than most other motors of similar capacity.

only said i.s as m3 engnes are silly money! and it would be a responsive car if set up correctly, an m20 would be fast i bet but in corners mite suffer as i would imagine in the 2002`s engine bay you would have to re-mount the headlights on the rocker cover! (allthough i have seen one done and they do just fit) the i.s would be more like the existing weight of the m10 or even ligher? not sure on that one!

(ps how much does an s14 weigh over an m42/44?)

Would love an S14 or 2.0l M10 to be eligable for the rules and regulations in many Historic and Classic races and series. Unfortunately not seen any for sale for long time or sensible money hence this topic, if none pop up im going all out for maximum wrongness

You can have mine for £500.00. Needs assembling though and all part are new and parts not fitted are waiting at BMW for me to pick them up and pay for them.

Integrale engine - buy an early (16V) Fiat Coupe from a scrappie!
190bhp, 220lb/ft. I've no idea what you'd do for a prop :(
E30 Touring 0.35 cD - more slippery than prison soap :)

Hi

There was a 02 being rebuilt in my mates gargae who also does a lot of classic jap so we took a few mesurements and the 180sx turbo motor and box would fit, the exhuast & turbo is on the passangers side so it's a simpler install.

Fritz are doing a m42 conversion and I have a s14 motor stashed for my tii.

But if you want power just turbo the motor that's in there

So I presume turbo options are out the window then as they won't meet regulations unless its a 1.4 turbo or something like that.

Vauxhall XE engine on throttle bodies ftw. I would suggest an Mi16, but the ability to make it RWD is rather challenging. :o

To answer the questions it has no engine at all so im hunting for one.

The regs for the class state the engine has to be from the same family or if its an ex-racer (which it isnt) can use that family of engine too as some did run pinto, cosworth, lotus engines back in the 70's.

I have some other options but will not be allowed to race in any historic or classis series so defeats the object really

Turbo m10 as there was a turbo 2002 in the day is the cheapest BHP as a 220HP NA m10 is about 5k
