Hi lads one of my friends has a 318 and it was idleing crap asked me to look at it had a hole in the pipe that goes from the rocker cove to the inlet but even when i replaced the pipe it got worse seems like theres a valve or something on the inlet side allowing to much air through has anyone else come across this or know what to do
Thanks for any help

thats just a breather pipe and wont effect the running at all.

you need the round plastic valve oil breather on the inlet manifold as they leak air into the inlet and cause rough idle

no they breath from the cam cover to the inlet manifold and when they leak the engine sucks in air . same as having a hole in the inlet manifold . just done one for a mate not expensive and bmw knew wot i was talking about [ good sign that they may have sold one or two ]

even on e30s the breather pipes are important. with yours idling take the oil cap off and see what happens.
with everything elsebeing ok, by taking off the oil cap you've effectively created a massive air leak via the breather pipe into the inlet, and it'll idle like a bag of crap.

on e46 4pots you can normally hear the leak from the breather valve on the manifold
