E36 compact wiper problems really need help please

1996 e36 compact 318ti, wipers seem to be having a mind of their own at the moment, when on intermttant they will work fine then give two sweeps then normal single sweeps for a while then stop.
When on first speed they will continually sweep then at any time just stop, they will also do this on second speed aswell.
Are the relays at fault? I take it there is more than one relay as there is 3 fuses for the wash wipe system, also are the relays behind the glove box?
If not how do you get to them to replace?
Or would I be looking at a new wiper motor?
Any ideas would be welcome as its the other halfs car and shes giving me hell for the fault. Cheers guys need to get this fixed asap
