All,

Situation is as follows: Mrs George is due our 2nd baba in November and we need a bigger car, as the E30 has bugger all room for 2 adults / 2 kids / dog etc etc.

Now, I have no intention whatsoever of parting myself from my touring ( possible future exchange for a nice dark E30 325i 2 door maybe winkeye ), but we will require a bigger car. As a 2nd bigger BMW, we're thinking of the following:

X5
E39
M635csi

I've read plenty posts regarding the high's and lows of E39 ownership, and I'm still undecided if they're reliable enough. We really like the X5 for the driving position and load space, and the 635 is just an amazing looking car. I also love C class Merc estates, but would feel guilty driving a car from the "dark side" !! Loving the Saab 95 aero too, but it's FWD wrongness. 8O

We cover about 4000 miles a year in our touring at the moment, but plan to do a Scandanivian driving tour next year. As much as I'd like to do it in the E30, it's gonna be a squeeze !!

Any ideas chaps ?

Many thanks :D

e39 530i Touring? They are getting pretty cheap these days.

I don't really rate the C class. The E class is much more executive and comes with a nicer interior and options.

We luckily should soon have enough for a half decent X5 if that's what we decide to go for !! Still devided over petrol / diesel models though...

I had a 04 reg 3.0d about 2 years ago couldnt fault it but at the time a friend had a petrol and was crying over fuel costs I only wonder what it would be like now especially with tax going up over next few years I personally think if you got a petrol version and invested in a good LPG kit you will see the money back for the system in a year...good luck with whatever you go for and best wishes for the new arrival

M635csi or E39 Touring. E39 does everything the X5 does plus drives better.

X5 have less space than the E39 platform it's based on. An e39 touring will have vastly more load space than saloon or X5

E34 touring! 540i express travelling if you only cover 4000 miles a year! The real world hero would be the 525i a good one is like night and day reliabilty. I think they are the best built bmw ever e34s

Well,

I work my arse off, earn not bad money and have only one E30 ? Nah, had to be done Malc. She's a 2 door with a few goodies like cruise, full Scorpion system and it also has very low milage. Rather excited about picking her up on Saturday I am !!

Go X5 mate, Just looks abit more special than an E39 and looks abit more expensive........Id go for a 3.0d over the 3.0 petrol but it depends what engine size you are thinking of in petrol ?
Second choice would be the E39 and 3rd the M635csi simply because I think it wouldnt be great as an everyday family car......Still a great car though !

Out of Interest how much would you want for your tech 2 touring if you decided to sell ? winkeye

Cheers dude, but I've just bought another E30 for no apparent reason apart from sheer greed.

Sell my touring ? I'd rather have my nuts tied to the mast of a sinking ship !! :D
