when will E36 M3's become "cool" again.
Moderator: martauto
As above really. ive found over the past few years the E36 M3 has become increasingly a not "cool" car to own. unlike the E46 M3 which is new and stylish and the E30 M3 which is old and ugly which on it's own makes it cool without being an amazing car aswell. there is nowt wrong with the e36 its actually a really good car. i find its just a 90's wrongness limbo. not new enough but not old enough. so my question how long do you think it will be to the E36 M3 becomes special like the e30 M3 is?

Never the E30 M3 is in a League of its own never to be replicated again!mikekean wrote: so my question how long do you think it will be to the E36 M3 becomes special like the e30 M3 is?
At least 10 more years, then the E36's could be so rare that even M3's could be "cool".
E36's were made a lot more than E30's, especially ///M:s..

When the chavs kill off 2/3's of them, making the remaining few garage queens desirable and valuable.
e36 is chav territory at the moment. When they become too expensive to run, then they've regains some grace again.

I hate the fact it's in chav territory at the moment as well.. I own one but it's completly standard and hope that when I come to sell it in a few months it's retained some value!
But that's half the reason I'm selling.. I seem to be associated with the rest of the beggers who can't treat their BMWs right because they don't have the means to maintain them.

The E30 M3 was built to different criteria to all other M3s and will always be viewed on through rose-tinted glasses because of that and the low build numbers.
If it had never been built would the E36 be seen differently - possibly.
I've got an E36 Evo, it might LOOK like a chavved up 318, but it doesn't go like one.

Keep it, I would venture a guess that in 3-5 years two things will happen you will regret selling it and prices will go up to a level where you can't justify buying another when you realise it was a mistake.Ian_M wrote:I hate the fact it's in chav territory at the moment as well.. LOL@ e30 M3 being ugly, I wouldn't go that far. It certainly akin to a breeze block on wheels but has a lot more road presence than a regular e30.
I think the e36 M3 is on a sliding scale at the minute, as pointed out they've become chav chariots and ( let's be honest) for little money a lot of performance.
There's so many battered old e36 m3's turning up now it's unreal, owners haven't a clue what a VANOS unit is, or what valve clearences are. The likelyhood is they will keep the car until they break them and then move onto something else. I would estimate 3 years+ before the chavs have moved on and the remaining e36's will be the desirable ones.
As previously mentioned, they'll never be on the same pedestal as the e30 m3.

there uglyness is what gives them there presence. if you see and E30 M3 come up behind you it looks angry as hell. as if its saying get the fuck out of my way. one of the things i love about them. but there getting stupidly expensive to buy now. and some people are asking well over the odds for blatent rot boxes. so was thinking of getting an E36 now while there cheap and holding onto it with the hope that they will get some of the respect that the E30 does and be worth good money someday.cirrusblau wrote:LOL@ e30 M3 being ugly, I wouldn't go that far. We dont really have a problem with it being a chav car here in Jersey infact there arent really many of them over here but its a very money orientated island and a 90's M3 just doesnt cut it. where as i use to get ultimate respect when driving around in my shiney white tech2 sport.

I cant wait to start raping my e36 M3 3.0( 81K chipped/decatted to 301 HP ), she's Avus Blue with silver alcantara and almost worthless at the moment, Engine and box are going into a very very nice un welded non crusty Tech 1 for a customer
I'll regret this in a few years for sure, but for now, its gotta be done.
E30 M3 Ugly ?? maybe but she sure is purposeful from every angle
E36= donor car for a few years yet...... to many about and not that special in the 1st place.

I have liked E36 M3's since they were launched. I don't see many chavs driving them though - plenty of councilled up E36 318s around but not M3's.
Still want an E36 M3 Evo coupe in Estoril Blue with silver leather - its on my list.
Round where I live the chav cars of choice still seem to be French Turds ( Saxo, Clio etc ) and Corsas.
I bloody hate chavs.

Most scallys will be looking a sport, they are getting hard to find and expensive. Where as the e36 m3 has went shot down in price, plenty of young fellas out raking them about insured under thier dads name.
I have seen a few dakar yellows in bits recently, young fellas crashing them one of which was killed instantly, 19 and driving an m3 evo. Pretty scary stuff

A 19 year old in an M3 Evo is irresponsible parenting.

Yep, i was driving a sport at 18 but then again my father taught me how to steer, he was a grade one advanced driver in the police so he taught me alot. Good job cus the sports can be a slippery customerRosc0PColtrane wrote:A 19 year old in an M3 Evo is irresponsible parenting.
