We spend fortunes on our cars in restorations and mods. But look what else you can get for your dough - not a fan of E36's but I've always liked the Sport Tourings.

id rather spend £2500 on that than the same or more that gets asked for e30 tourings.

It's a superior car in every way but it just won't ever feel special to look at, be in or drive.
2.5G will you get a tidy (not mint) E30 325i Touring with a decent spec but no heated seats, climate etc.
I may go pick this up on Sunday as a runaround whilst I get my E30 sorted and sell it on in 6 months and not lose much.
E36 Sport Tourings are the pick of E36's.

There is a close to excellent2.5 Touring with aircon, heated seats and 3 piece split BBS going for sale down near Taunton. Think its £2.6k but its a beaut.Loki_V2 wrote:It's a superior car in every way but it just won't ever feel special to look at, be in or drive.

well what can i say? if i had to choose between the two it'd have to be the e30 sport touring with the e36 engine just to wind up the local boy racers round my way.
nice looking car though & a steal at the price in my mind.

See what I mean - £3G for a standard Touring. So we are willing to pay 1-2G over a mint super spec superior car in every way just for the look/charm.
It's nuts! I'd probably STILL take the E30 as well which is even more nuts!

id take the newer, higher speced e36 touring as long as it had a decent engine such as a 2.8. whats the one in the add? i cant make out the rear badge?Loki_V2 wrote:Which would you take?fuzzy wrote:and theres a standard 2.5 e30 touring for sale up north for £3G. i know which one id buy.

No heated seats or A/C that I can see. Rusty front arches?
And you'd take that over the E36 Sport Touring?

It has rust in the front wings. His pictures and his description are poor and the link he provides for more information doesn't work. He wants top money too.
It's the seller that should make the advert appealing, most cars are sold before the viewing takes place; It shouldn't be left to the buyers imagination to sell the vehicle to himself. You don't see dirty cars on a sales forecourt or food chucked on shelves in supermarkets do you?
When will people learn that they need to put effort into selling a car like this, for this amount. Especially when the economy is sitting still too.

The E36 touring looks great BTW. the M tech bumpers and some decent BBS really make them shine. I'd have another one in a heartbeat.
Here's my old one around 5 years ago:

I was stupid to have sold it, but at the time it was worth a lot more money! I'd love to buy it back simply because it was a great colour and spec. Don't under estimate the 2.8 either, it's not juicy and it really goes well.

Maybe at the speeds you drive Dips
you might get a little bit more comfortability but if you rallly the shit out it, which ones better then, in your opinion.... I think the e30 due to the weight of each car, the e36's seem alot heavier than the e30....

E36's are the second hand bargain of all BMW's at the moment. Prices aren't going to drop much more and decent ones are becoming more scarce. A nice late 328i touring is a fantastic car that's as good as an E46 to drive IMO.

Simon13 - you sir, are a jammy barsteward!
Another vote for the E36 328 tourer. I loved mine so dearly that I wore the corners of both front mudguards...
Roof rails are the ultimate impreznot bait - on a twisty country road, his wrx couldn't shake me (in fairness he seemed not to know the stretch as well as I did - it was my test route after all).
Hmmm.... M3 running gear in an E36 tourer....
All that said, the E30 is the looker of the 3 series stable imo, plus lighter (especially with the Swiss-cheese fetish of certain body panels).

I've had a few E30 Tourings 320i, 325i etc) and none of them was as nice as a good 328i Touring. A 325i Touring would need to be gold plated to make 2500 quid of mine - they're not that special.Loki_V2 wrote:It's a superior car in every way but it just won't ever feel special to look at, be in or drive.

I'm picking up the Blue 323i Sport Touring this weekend as a runaround whilst I sort my E30 out.
Will report back in detail on how it stacks up as I've never read a detailed head-to-head comparison - only blind loyalty versus value for money logic.

Got it - got a bit more off him for fuel on the way back too - don't you hate people that sell you a car with the light? Such bad selling etiquette.
It's an auto so the 2.5 is still pretty slow, deceptively slow as it's so smooth.
Insane level of kit for the money: iPod dock, boot changer / 6 speaker stereo / amp, Computer, dual zone climate, power windows all round and sunroof, 17" BBS splits and was in excellent condition. No play in any bushes, full BMWSH, zero rust. It's all about NOT buying cars in major cities.
Know what the most psycho thing is?
Still prefer my E30 Touring.
Not because it's got a more lively or 'real' driving experience (it has) or even because it's a bit more special (it is also).
For me, it just has more charm. More character. I look at all the cool 80's switches, the chunky angular dash, the smallish size of the body versus todays bloated models - it just is a better car where it matters - in me gut like.
These days, we could all afford nice new cars with lots of gadgets and classy slick ride if we really wanted one (I also had a look at £2.8K E46 325i Touring!) but it's not for me.
Go figure...

I just don't like the look of E36s. That nose looks really ugly and boot is too bulbous. Skip a generation and go for an E46.
Personal opinion of course....
edit: and you don't need to pay silly money for an E30 touring. Mine was £650 from the bay and its solid! Yes, I like white
