Just wondering how the performance of the 2 matches up, purely in a straight line, as obviously the E30 would have it in the corners?

Cheers

I had a m535i and a 325i touring at the same time, I would take the m535 out more often better accleration, better brakes, and did not udnersteer like the e30 on fast bends. but a sorted e30 is more nimble than the e28.

Having had both, the 535 is faster beyond 60 and in gear acceleration is better. E30 is nimbler but the 5 has a nice turn in and isn't 1,000,000 turns lock to lock either :)

m535i times are not too far away from a standard e30 m3! thats a quick motor! i for one would ditch a sport for one as they are a better car faster and handle just as well and with a few good mods even better and for the money 3k will get you a genuine m535i in top condition as for a sport its gonna be 1 or 2k more and then if you modify it in my opinion you are devaluing it its just a better to be in the e28 world IMO, however the e30 will allways be the better looker and more sought after.

SELL YOUR SPORTS AND BUY M535IS YOU KNOW ITS RIGHT LOL!

I have never droven an M535i but I have borrowed my dads BMW 635CSI with a manual gearbox! I have also been so "lucky" that I have droven an E30 325i and let me say it like this:
The 325i is a fast and good car to drive and you can have plenty of fun!
The 635CSI just pulls like an French TGV on the rails of France, its a much better car tbh!
