Has been sitting on the guys driveway for nearly 20 years....
Broke my heart, was thinking of restoration but BMW Car Club have said NOOOOOOOO!

Good for spares only,any attempt to restore that will end in end in tears.

Given enough time, money and patience anything can be restored. The real question is how much solid metal remains under that flaky paint, in any case restoring it would require a lot of effort, but then again if you have the space, time and tools - why not?

Nasty aint it? Its a real shame though. I don't really have the time or money to restore based on its condition.

Well I've seen it up close and there is a huge hole in the boot thats gone through.

I lifted the drivers carpet and found severe rust

Guessing the wheels probably seized too

That would be a labour of love. Doing a proper bare metal ground up resto on a solid car is mammoth (my old man and i are in the process of doing this to his MGB which he's owned for 30 years...oh and we're putting a V8 in

) so doing anything to this would be....umm....brave

It has the early "Neue Klasse" style front end which is fairly rare.

Its gone way passed saving but would be useful for spares to keep others on the road.

Cheers. Just spoke to a garage in Kent who specialise in restoring these and they are very keen to get their hands on it. One of the guys there reckons he has seen nearly every CS model in the UK and thinks he is 6 cars away from the full list! Rare indeed.

I haven't bought it mate......I am speaking to other people and companies who may be interested in restoring it for a long term project...

Its worth making an offer just to save it from the scrapmans torch! Saying that though dont pay anymore than scrap value!!

Owey! That really is sad. If that's what the outside looks like, I dread to think what it would look like after being stripped back to the bare shell...

It would be a brave man who takes that on as a project - but I hope someone does!

It's a shame but that is a moneypit with four wheels. It wasn't worth saving 20 years ago let alone now.

If you want one then buy one that's still up together and cut out the middleman of heartache and bankruptcy.

I had an E9 3.0 CS a few years ago which structurely is the same car from the A pillar back.

Used to be a firm at Alrewas who did repair panels - the ones I needed were a perfect fit. Think that they were called Gordon Smith.

It was originally Chamonix white and has export headlamps (USA) as opposed to the correct sealed in types behind a one pice lens.
It might not be that bad - for whatever reason the 2000CS rotted a lot less than the later E9 2800/3.0 Coupes. The colour now is Turkis metallic and it appears to have ATS wheels so some hero has updated it in the seventies.

At the very least get it properly steam cleaned and get it running. If it's not horrifically rotten and runs. it's a project. I've seen worse than that rebuilt before and often stuff far less deserving.

Take the car to your garage, strip it for all its parts so its just an empty shell is left and then sand blast it so you can see how much rust there is. Then you can make up your mind if its worth restoring, but they are rare cars and worth a lot of TLC

It's worth doing, but it's not economically viable as such. Mint 2000CS Coupes make about £7-10'000 and they make more money than the 3.0CS Coupes due to their rarity. The front end styling is an aquired taste - I think they look superb, others disagree. They were near enough hand built by Karmann and were based on the 2000 Ti Neue Klasse floorpan. There was also a 2000C with a single carb motor and an automatic variant with this lower powered engine.

A rare and stylish old car, needs saving if possible.

opposite my local dealer is a bodyshop, and sat outside and has been for about 3 years i think* a P reg E9 3.0CSI.

The panel work all looks respectable also. Original 14inch alpina rims with the black centre caps on very flat tyres! It's defo an E9 though

The very last E9 was on an R plate, August 1976. The first 6 Series arrived at that point.

P reg is August 1st 1975 to July 31st 1976.

A mate of mine had a P plate Cortina Mark 4 when they were all R reg due to being introduced Sept 1976 - his was a LHD import. It was also a Taunus, the German built Corty.
