Urgent - E39 530D Problems

Hope someone can help

My parents have got a E39 530d 2000 X

They are just travelling on holiday towing a caravan and have said that there appears to be a funny noise from the engine, now there has been a kind of whistling very quiet since he bought the car not got any worse in over a year.

So is it likely to be turbo failure and if so will it do any damage by driving it?

Anyone give any tests that could be done to determine this?

was the whistling not the turbo in the first place?

what sort of noise is it? knocking? squeeking? tapping? screaming?

could be a cyclist they've hit or a sheep.the turbos are a common failure on these models and the e46.

Hi

Dont know what the noise is like, but there is smoke coming out of the back as well, so all pointing towards Turbo Failure.

Anyone know any independant specialists in the Monmouth area to take a look?

yes ,it could be turbo,if it smokes,and could be noise,but not every time it fails.it could be things like throttle bodys i inlet manafould.anyway you must bring your car to specialists.good luck!

if you go over to www.bmw5.co.uk they may be able to be more explicit. (it does sound like the turbo though!!)
