E34 525i Difficulties

Hi Guys (& Girls) I have joined after experiencing some problems with my M20 engined 525i, i was pointed in your direction by a member of this forum. The reason im asking here aswell is that i have yet to recieve a confirmation email for another BMW forum (tis a week late now ).

Basically my problem is that the head cracked on my 525i, a common problem im told I have found and been passed a few links and contacts for spare cylinder heads so i have a few options.

My question(s) are : Even though i have a 12v engine, what sort of work would it take to stick the 24v found in later 5's ? EDIT : With regards to this what other engines would fit with little or no changes required ??

And would the cylinder head from a 6 cyl 520i fit ? they look the same but people have said that it may not fit due to pistons sizes ?

All help is enourmously appreciated, i dont like looking at it out the window knowing its not working

Dude, I suspect this will get locked pretty quickly. I would recommend you try www.bmw5.co.uk really nice bunch over there (as they are here, but it is an E30 forum.).

(By the way, I once waited a week for a confirmation to come through then realised that my hotmail account had sent the confirmation straight into my junk folder, so check there first.)

this is in the Non E30 section so will stay unlocked for the duration.

re the M50 swop, read the M50 developments thread, we use an E34 M50 as the favoured donor so all that information is very valid to you

with regards to the 320/520 731 cyl head, Do NOT fit that , only the 885 325i castings are compatable.

M50 swap - forget it. Sell yours and buy an M50 525i. You will need the engine, gearbox, prop, diff, exhaust................

325i heads are still plentiful. I sell a nice one with a good cam for around £100 but haven't got one right now.
