Hey Folks my Dad currently owns a bmw 728i but at this current moment the auto matic gearbox is fucked :-x its has it moments were it will select a gear but then wont select it only seems to be when the lcd display goes blank so this leads us to beleive its an electrical fault so its either time to break it or sell it as a whole

so what do people think its worth in bits considering its the 2.8 straight 6 with full electric leather interior 17 inch alloys private plate etc

either that or does anyone have any solutions or ideas what the gearbox problem maybe ?

It may well be something as stupid as a battery. These things need the full battery voltage otherwise the gearbox will arse about.

E38's are fairly good breakers. The interior is worth nothing because all E38's have leather so nobody upgrades. If the engine is nice it's worth £750 and the front end panels, bumpers and lights have a value. You'd break it to £1500 easily enough but I'd shove it through a car auction and let some other punter deal with it.

If the gearbox has a green sticker on the underside it's likely one of the supposed `sealed for life' items. The fluid has probably gotten low. The only trouble is the fluid is a ridiculous price. Still may well be worth checking just in case as fragging a seven is going to leave you in a pile of parts you won't be able to do anything much with.

It isn't a black 728 `sport' K40PDC plate is it ? Curious.
