Just Seen this on piston heads. Thinking thats A lot of miles but would any of you guys be put off buying this tool if it had good service history and seemed to run well or would you be thinking stay away too much?
I once bought A 230,000 miler E34 525i sport and it never missed A beat with no history. Then that was A £300 pound motor and A replacement engine would not be too hard to source while A M5 block?

Hmm. If it's not rusty and there is evidence of a timing chain/sprockets in the last 70-80 k it might be worth a punt at £3500-4000. Sadly E28 M5 owners are of the opinion that this was the best M5 ever made and trust me, it's not. When £5000 buys a stunning 3.6 E34 or a very tidy 3.8, that seems a bit dear.
Parts for these are very expensive and very hard to find used. Would you be happy giving it the 7000 rpm it needs to get it flying? I wouldn't at 300k.
It's worth a punt but with those miles it needs to be silly cheap to be worth the aggro.

The guy selling it originally was asking for £7k, that was around 6 months ago. He spent an absolute fortune on this car and really loved it to bits. If I remember rightly he had all the work done on the car at the Maclaren workshops inc. the chain etc. With alleged receipts to prove.
Trips to the parts desk for this car were a daily occurence for this guy. I think Si13 knows the car too.
I know Onkar who is the current owner, he has a BMW independant workshop in Rugby iirc.

If you can get it for £4500 then its definately worth a punt. 300k miles is nothing if the cars been well looked after and has a heap of bills and service history. Depending on how you want to use the car..personally id have it as a toy, weekends etc..i wouldnt want to use it as a daily driver. It looks very tidy and as its a known car and has been owned by an enthusiast id say go for it..

An old M5 with 300.000 miles on the clock is a lot of miles, but I do think you need to see it with your own eyes to see if its worth it or not..... Its 480.000km here in Sweden and I dont think I would pay a lot of money for that car?

This needs avoiding at all costs, for not a lot more money you will buy one with half that mileage and that will be hard enough to resell.
Rightly or wrongly mileage is probably the most important issue that influences the price of a car and trust me a 300000 mile M5 has about as much appeal to the buying public as a colour changed, engine swapped , clifforded, councilled E30 cab from birmingham !
PS this car was bought by the seller for about 3 bags off ebay about 6 months ago which i still thought was OTT, i believe he has done some remedial work in the mean time.

If i put all the cosmetic issues right on mine (with a lever arch file full of history) and 188000 miles on the clock, i wouldn't expect to get 5k for it, as Pete says mileage is always issue on resale, i recon this is worth 2-3k tops; regardless of how much money has been thrown at it, there i no getting away from 300000 miles
An E30 touring, two E28 M5's and an E28 528i.
