is there a connection or is this as random as it seems?n88byn wrote:I bought my Touring from RM2186 (Mike), we agreed a price of £670 through the zone and he delivered it on his way to London next day(about 200 miles) when it arrived it was perfectly as described and had a quick test drive and i paid. Hour later the car would not move which turned out to be Auto gearbox leaking fluid out the torque converter, Spoke to Mike and he was very apologetic and said he would get me another gearbox which he did and delivered it the next weekend just leaving me with just cost of fitting! Now the car runs fine other than using abit of water which im sure Mike did not know about! He is a nice guy and would buy another one off him which is something i would not say about alot of sellers ive bought from

I've just had a read through this thread, interesting!
To be honest, it sounds like you only want to get the engine replaced for the sake of having it done. Not springing for the rebuilt engine because it's not cost effective seems to me like you want to get out of the situation as painlessly as possible?
Why don't you just cut your losses now and buy the M3 you were toying with earlier. Or do the all mighty comprise, buy a run of the mill 328i for a few hundred quid, nick the engine for the sport, break what's left of the donor and sell the sport on?

There's an M3 Evo engine and 6 speed box, with a car attached (with rotten rear top mounts) for £1800 on Bimmerowner.

I dont think you can buy a short engine anymore si, block with pistons is available though and I seem to recall a price of £1700 oddSimon13 wrote:i thought it was £1500 for a short engine, the alusil bottom ends were £400 complete 18months ago!
I think you need to decide what you want with the car Tim, if you plan on keeping it for a while then you should spend as needed, but if you want rid just buy an engine that runs and be done with it
