In that case rip the coont out, you can leave the auto plugs tied up and shouldnt have any issues with the ECU unplugged. With a 3.15 diff you will want an overdrive 6th for civilised motoring, you dont have to use the M3 fly/clutch, id stick to an M20 jobbie

Thats when the switchtronic action started and now its more like 310 to a tank. I've just done an m-way tank and its done 320 miles with a 1/4 left. I've got to go to gatwick later but i don't think it will do another 90 miles. I might take the jerry can and see!

I'm not against LPG but theres no stations near me. I've looked into it before. Closest ones are 15 odd miles away and in the directions i don't travel to really. I'd have to make a point of going that way everytime i wanted LPG.
Bad luck about the stations that sucks, you'll just have to fit a giant tank!

£80 / 250 is 32p / mile, ours is running 13.7p/m.

Dan when you had my ecu did you do anything to the copy to make it run on your car ie tell the ecu its now a manual instead?

a 6 speed box is £500 though a 5 speed is £50.

With a 5 speed box and this LSD it would be geared like a 3.0 M3 which can't be all bad. I'm not rushing into it yet.

The ECU thing didnt work out the box, I only drove the car a few miles and it runs like a bag of shite, no go at all. It might be something simple but ive not been arsed to look into it and have now got my hands on a B3 ECU for keeps

6 speed or keep the auto IMO!

I've found a online calculator type thing. the 3.0 M3 gearing is nuts, way to revvy it would fly though i expect and still be 22mpg! 70mph in 5th is 2960rpm

If i went 6 speed with a 3.15 diff it would give me nearly identical crusing RPMs as it is now. But with the go of manual in the first 5 gears. So 70mph in 6th would be 2457rpm.

With my car as it is with the 3.46 diff, 70mph in 5th is 2406rpm

The 6 speed box uses nearly identical ratios to the 5 speed but with an overdrive 6th gear on top. This has to be the way then, so M20 flywheel will work with this?! i clutch choice has to be right though

My 3.0lt has a 5 speed box, lightened m20 flywheel and 3.15 LSD. IMO the gearing is perfect! 3200 rpm at 80mph and pulls right off the clocks

Well with the 6 speed box desmond you can have same that go in 5th also, but with the overdrive 6th for the economy too. Has to be in my mind, i'd keep the 3.15 diff with the 6 speed box.

Leave it alone. Going manual sounds like a lot of aggro for 3 mpg and a bit of c0ck action f :(

Obviously if the box poos itself, then it is another matter.

I was waiting for that one! Seems to love a bait Si.

my pennys worth. Will making it a manual REALLY improve matters? It will change the make up of the car from something you can sit back and relax in (Auto) to a rag worthy tool which is begging for a thrashing???

I'd give it longer legs with a diff and see how it pans out. It's not like it can't handle taller gearing. It must have torque coming out of it's arse.

If it's still an alcoholic, then move to a manual conversion.

i just think i'd like it even more if it was manual. I loved my 328 slag, and this could be even better! With the LSD too it would be a proper move up from the C2 wagon which as they are is much more of a drivers car.

I'm thinking out loud really.

I think you should convert it. You obviously want to, and it will save you fuel in theory.

I brown nose no man. I say what i think. If I thought Si (or anyone for that matter) was being a massive t1t, I would and do say so.

I think we all know your motive for such gayness. No matter who or what was to blame for all that. You need to move on now. Having all that resentment inside you isn't good for your health.

Belt up!

He's not the only one. I'm not bothered either way. My post has nothing to do with who I like or don't. I just hate the pointless bating and b1tching after all this time. It should be dead and buried by now!

That fact that someone can't move on is very gay!

Si I've had the same thoughts about sticking a manual in mine, would be proper! I've an e46 diesel 6 speed box somewhere (a mate of mine with a 330 5 speed keeps on threatening to stick in that but it'll never happen!)... If I weren't selling, I'd be tempted! Does seem a bit wrong to drop the switchtronic, I must admit that it's grown on me over time.
