My M535i
Moderator: martauto
Hi
Welcome to the club
there is a decent m535i forum on bmw5.co.uk.
the z3 lever fits, I had to use a dremel on the white plastic bearing that the ball rotates in to get them to fit (with a dab of glue) into the shifter plate.

Good to see you all, and nice to meet you Barry/Matt. I could not stop smiling on the way home... I am so pleased she was clean underneath...
Went a bit loopy and had the back apart on Sunday as I had been getting water in the boot which has caused some superficial surface rust and damp carpet. So I had the lot out on the rads indoors (missus well chuffed lol) and then took the rear lights out cleaned them up and replaced the gaskets and the main boot seal and the cleaned up the surface rust and put rust preventative paint on, I will waxoil the cavities whilst in there too.
Here is the mint rear panel :

This shot shows some of the surface rust from the damp...

Going to have a good old undersealing session in a couple of weeks time, and then I will get the bumpers and aprons off, straighten them up and protect underneath.. should be fun.

Funnily enough a mate of mine has just bought another one that was on pistonheads for a while, and turned up at the Macdonalds Lakeside meet recently, 84K mint black leather with some slight cosmetic rot on the front wings for under 2K. So they are out there amongst the dross.
Here are some more pics of mine today in the sun.

How can you tell it's an original M5?
my brother has one just like the pics in this topic..
bodykit, exhausts in middle, same engine pics...
there is a badge on the front strut which shows M535i too...
could it be an M5?

how much did you get hold of that one for mate? its sweet!
also what are the wheels from, obviously not standard, are they the same fitment as an E30?
They look tasty, a little bit deep, maybe E30 BBS?
Cheers
ps. how much do you want for it LOL

As Giles says, M535i is like the 325i Sport for the 5 series world and has the standard M30 3.5 218 Bhp sohc lump 1400 or so uk cars. The M5 has the engine from the M1 285 Bhp S88 only 180 or so uk cars. Take the chassis number to the local BMW dealer and get a spec printout that will tell you for sure.Brenner5 wrote:How can you tell it's an original M5?

Only a couple of bags mate. They are not making strong money unless they are very low mileage minters.
I am not selling this one

sweet so the people ive seen asking 4 grand for over a 100k are dreaming a bit then?
worth a try, youve got something pretty special and so kool there i dont blame you for not selling it!
do you reckon an auto one would be a waste of time as you cant squeeze all the power out?
ive seen an auto one for reasonable money that looks really mint im so tempted, might go for a look and a test but dont want to waste my time.
cheers for all the info and the pictures youve set my mind on one!
how do you compare it to a 325 sport in straight line speed etc?

TBH it is more about condition than mileage with these things. I have not driven an auto and I would imagine is it ok if you don't mind autos and AFAIK they have the switchable box.tommtb wrote:sweet so the people ive seen asking 4 grand for over a 100k are dreaming a bit then?

In terms of speed, not much in it up to 60, but after that the extra bhp and torque makes quite a big difference, it is only around 60kg heavier too apparently.

sweet as, there either seems to be great condition examples or dogs that have been abused so its pretty easy to guage where to shop
what does a switchable box in a BMW mean? ive seen it on a load of different models but have no knowledge of auto cars...
did yours come with those wheels or did you bag them from somewhere else? if so how much because they set it off a treat, would love some big split BBS on one but no chance of the cash this year with other things going on
cheers, mate

Switchable box has sport mode which holds the changes later for speedier progress and economy mode for...well economy.
I had a choice of wheels that the previous owner had, could have had her with Borbet Bs as below, but for a price and I wanted to keep some money back to spend on other goodies...

sweet, surely still cant be as good as a manual though, might have to ask around for more advice on that and how to swap the auto for a manual...
christ it looks awesome with the borbets too, but tbh i think the bbs suit it a bit better, borbets maybe a bit too big?
what else are you planning for her? any tuning plans as im going to head that way next year if i buy an E28

Only minor things, brakes are half way upgraded with E32 302mm discs on the front and braided hoses. I have E34 540 rear calipers so 300mm discs will be going on the back too. She had eibach pro kit on fairly recently too, may need some thicker ARBs but we will see how she goes. Engine wise not too much for now, 6 branch and system to come and a re-map once done and the breathing sorted.
For more info on these things pop over to http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/ The M535i topic has been discussed alot lately and there are many more knowledgable guys than me on there (I am a relative E28 noob too)

Hey that's my white M5 with the bodykit (undesirable i have to say) how do you tell if it's an M5 or M535i well as you say, BBS 16" wheels as E30 M3, then there's the Rev counter (No economy meter, just the M log), the electrically operated front seats, aircon and then there's this:hubble wrote:
This is the M5 without the bodykit. Although you did have an option to fit a bodykit as in the pics below. Not many were sold though with the Kit.
Pics below with the optional bodykit

An E30 touring, two E28 M5's and an E28 528i.
